Are the Warwick Rowers a real rowing team?
The Warwick Rowers project was created by photographer Angus Malcolm to raise funds for the University of Warwick Boat Club, and for many years all calendar participants came from this club. Its most famous alumni include Tom Solesbury, a double British Olympian and World Cup Championship medallist. Tom won the Boat Race with Oxford in 2009, and is a trustee of Sport Allies. However, we have branched out! Our tenth anniversary edition includes guest stars from other clubs and other sports, and we intend to pursue this more diverse recruitment policy in the future.
What is your relationship with Warwick University?
The Warwick Rowers project is an independent social enterprise that has no relationship with Warwick University or Warwick Student Union. The project provided significant funding to the rowing programme at Warwick University for many years, but the principal beneficiary of the project's charitable giving is now the registered charity, Sport Allies. Sport Allies was founded in 2014 to build on the success of the Warwick Rowers project in recognising the capacity for sport to make a contribution to greater diversity and inclusion. The charity has been funded by the Warwick Rowers project since it was set up and has received nearly £120,000 in funding from Warwick Rowers sales.
How much of your money goes to good causes?
We operate as a social enterprise, focused on running an ethical business that creates value for others. We originally gave all profits to the rowing programme at Warwick University, and they have received over £150,000. However, Warwick University has now moved to support its sports programme from its own resources, so we focus on providing support that is more in line with the campaigning objectives of our calendar. In line with our new policy, we have donated nearly £120,000 to Sport Allies since 2014.
What products do you sell?
We sell a growing range of Warwick Rowers products, including the print calendars, the "making of the calendar" films, clothing, art prints, digital subscriptions with lots of new images and great new films delivered to your account every month and, of course, our very special coffee table book.
Why do you want to write to me?
Two reasons. Firstly, we want to be able to let you know when we launch a new product or offer that might interest you. Also, and just as importantly, we want to keep you posted on the work of Warwick Rowers and Sport Allies - you have funded it, and we know you care about it as much as we do.
Where do you sell your products?
We sell our products online at warwickrowers.org, so you're in the right place, right now! And we deliver all over the world!!
Why can't I get the film as a DVD?
We decided long ago that the simplest way of getting our films to people was via downloads. We also recognise that people may want to play our films across a range of devices, and our format allows the films to be played on smartphones, tablets, computers and media servers.
Why is there a copyright notice on some of my digital downloads?
We want to give our customers the best possible versions of our digital content, optimised for clear viewing on high-resolution displays. Unfortunately, we have had experiences in the past where this content has been posted in public forums for people to download. We want everyone to understand that, while we share lots of free content publicly, our high-resolution content is only for people who support our club and our charity. These notices are there to remind people of that, but we do try to make them as unobtrusive as possible.
Why have my downloads disappeared?
Our policy is that, once you've bought it, you will always have it! If you have a genuine problem with lost content - for example through a broken hard drive - please contact us. We will always aim to restore genuine purchases! HOWEVER, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ALL CONTENT DOWNLOADING RIGHTS FROM ANY ACCOUNT WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT WHERE WE CAN DEMONSTRATE THAT ANY CONTENT FROM THAT ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SHARED ILLEGALLY.
Watching our films
As our films are presented to you in high quality we recommend you use a download programme that will pause and restart if you experience any loss of connection or buffering. We suggest the free JDownloader, but there are many others.
For viewing our content, whilst the viewers that come with your device are ok, we have found the free "VLC Viewer" to produce great results in playback.
Occasionally you may find the links in your purchase email stop working. Don't worry, you can find the download links to all your purchases on your account page when you log in.
All our "physical" products are distributed from a state of the art distribution centre here in the UK. They are all dispatched via worldwide carriers and packaged to ensure you receive them in pristine condition. Due to local customs regulations and checks in the country of delivery your order may be delayed in reaching you.
When I buy your products, where does my money go?
Some money goes into developing producing, storing and dispatching our products, which now requires a team of people based all over the world. All net profits from sales go to Sport Allies, a registered charity working to make sport more inclusive and more relevant to creating a diverse society.
So is this a student project or a professional enterprise?
What started as a small volunteer project has grown into a flourishing social enterprise where professionals and students work together in a relationship that combines volunteering, mentoring and work experience. It is a cross-generational gay/straight alliance of which we are all very proud!
